A follow-up report. I reached an agreement with the company for a settlement on my complaint. I signed the agreement on May 19th, 2023. I agreed to update my review of the company to show how they responded. I was told I would get the settlement check in 2 weeks from May 19th. I believe in keeping my word so this is my update. I was told by the VP of Operations, Caleb Kirby, I had reached the right person to get something done. Today is June 30th so the check is 4 weeks overdue. There have been more excuses, but no check. Caleb Kirby assured me the check was mailed on Friday June 23rd. This would only make it 3 weeks late. I waited a full week for USPS to get the check from their office in S. Carolina to the Houston area before writing this update on June 30th at 11pm. Interestingly, according to the representative at the S. Carolina BBB that is handling my complaint against the company, the company claimed they sent me a settlement check on June 2nd. This is now going into the 14th month involving 50+ emails I have been trying to get a resolution. After speaking with Caleb Kirby I truly expected this update to reflect a positive resolution and show the company does care about customer satisfaction. Sadly, it is not a positive resolution, but it does truly show the their customer service. I am hoping someday to get to post a positive resolution, but not today. Just the facts.

The company changed its name to Concrete Driveway Co. You may draw your own conclusions about the name change and the BBB rating: same company, different name. The Project Manager returned to inspect the driveway when I called him 5 months after the job. He stated after his personal inspection the driveway was faulty and should be replaced. The Customer Service Manager and Project Manager both acknowledged the faulty concrete and stated a full refund was due. It was submitted to the CFO. That was a year ago involving probably 40+ emails, the filing of 4 warranty claims, and many excuses ago. I have all the emails that show exactly what was stated by the Customer Service Manager and Project Manager. I have the contract which includes the Scope of Project details that were not followed. I emailed the owner of the company, but no response. I have filed the warranty claim 4 times. I have called and emailed, but now no response. I am hoping someone that reads this can provide me with contact information for the owner. Madewell Concrete did not fulfill the Scope of the Project to include the feature I paid for. These items were specifically listed to be included: The redwood expansion joints to control cracking: NOT DONE; Done; "The deck is not done. NOT DONE. Concrete poured into building foundation: NOT SURE IF THIS WAS DONE. Madewell Concrete will not discuss the Scope of the Project. I have approximately 150 of cracks that are through and through the driveway. The company did not follow the guidelines of the concrete companies, including their own, of having expansion joints every 8-12 feet to control cracking. I spoke to the Better Business Bureau which covers the area in which the business is located. They are very familiar with the company tactics. My situation seems to be very frequent with Madewell Concrete, whatever the name is now. I have dozens of photos and all the emails from the Project Manager and Customer Service Manager that state the driveway is defective and a full refund is due me. I paid $12,000 for the driveway and did not get what was promised. I want it done right. I am in the Houston area. Not long after my job in December 2021 the company closed the office here and ran. I have been fighting this battle for a year. Before you choose Madewell Concrete or the Concrete Driveway Company as it calls itself now, read the Better Business Bureau complaints and other reviews. The only thing made well by the company is excuses for poor work and non-existent customer service.

Received immediate response to my request for an estimate to replace a section of driveway and sidewalk and then met with a sales rep the next day -also received a detailed quote the same day. After signing contract, I met with project manager to review the scope of work to be completed and to discuss details of the project. Both the sales rep and project manager were very helpful in describing the details of the work as well as answering any questions that I had. On the day of demo and pouring of the concrete, I was visited by the sales rep, the project manager and an area manager who stopped by to check the progress of the work being done. After completion, I again met with the project manager to review the quality of the workmanship and to answer any questions that I had. Overall, it was a great experience and the company provided a level of professionalism that was truly appreciated.

Horrible job and worse customer service. Cannot get them to come out to even look at the problem. Called corporate and they will not return my calls. I am going to sue.

Response from Company:

This customer initially complained to Kel over a color issue where two separate trucks had poured out at different times, causing a a color variation. Additionally, he complained about some ruts in his yard left by a truck. We have both ppfs signed in SF as well as pictures of the completed job. He was aware of yard damage and that we cannot guarantee color. Kel returned upon his initial complaint to double check the project and confirmed the cause for the color issue and reiterated our stance on the matter. He consulted with me on how to proceed, which was to stand firm on our ppf. The customer then continued to contact Kel about getting something done and became increasingly hostile and finally cussing Kel out over the phone as well as in a text chain, of which I have screenshots. This customer was requesting special treatment outside of our scope of work, and became aggressive when we did not cater to his every whim.

Kel and Derrick were great. All business, but willing to listen to whatever I had to say. I didn't have a lot of contact with the crew, but from that little bit, they were good, too. Certainly good workers - much faster than I had anticipated.

Kel, Cisco, Justus and all of the crews were great to work with including coordinating with other trades I hired to pause after the demo to allow placing conduit for drains, sprinklers, landscape lights and generator gas and electric lines before setting rebar and pouring the concrete. The finished driveway looks great. Kel and Cisco communicated daily and answered all my questions.
