Write a ReviewI hired King Home Improvements in December 2020 to remodel my bathroom and repair a leak. At first, Mike seemed like a dream contractor - showed up when he said he would, super responsive to calls/texts/questions, visited the job site every day (work started on 12/2 and was finished by 12/10). On 12/9, I noticed some cracking in the floor tile grout, which I asked him about; he said it was the result of the grout needing to settle. On 12/10, they finished the job and told my wife and I we could start using the bathroom. That evening, we realized the outlets in the bathroom weren't working, the tub wasn't draining properly, and the floor grout was crumbling in different places. Mike and 1 of his guys came back on 12/11, fixed the draining in the tub, "fixed" the grout on the floor, and got an electrician to rewire the outlet. On 12/12, my wife noticed the tub in the bathroom had started leaking, and the floor grout had started crumbling again, so I called Mike. He and his worker came back on 12/13, fixed the leak, and "fixed" the floor grout. By January 2021, entire sections of floor grout had crumbled away, floor tiles started lifting, and cracks had started developing in the grout between the shower tiles. I contacted Mike on 1/8/2021, and he said he would come back on 1/20. My wife insisted on getting another contractor to come inspect the bathroom before Mike came back on 1/20/21, which we did, and the 2nd contractor told us that we had basically been taken advantage of because we had little knowledge about construction. In the 2nd contractor's inspection report, he wrote that his professional opinion was that the grout compound had been improperly mixed; he also noted what he called "soft spots" in the flooring (that he described as "stepping on rotted plywood or foamboard"), which made him believe the floor had been built up without removal of old plywood subfloor or inspection of potentially rotted floor joists. The 2nd contractor's inspection report also detailed how Mike had used the wrong kind of sheetrock for bathroom walls; he pointed out a section of the sheetrock that the workers failed to paint, which showed gray sheetrock (which is NOT mold-resistant) instead of green drywall (which is recommended for bathrooms because it is mold resistant). It was his professional opinion that the entire bathroom needed to be redone so that the proper materials could be used, a proper subfloor could be installed, the grout could be redone (properly), and the shower tiles could be installed properly. It has been 3 months since Mike finished our bathroom, and in that time, we have written him two letters detailing with pictures what is wrong with our bathroom. The last time we heard from him was on January 19th, 2021, when he told me he wouldn't be able to make it after 5pm on January 20th (which is when I was available to be home to meet him and show him the issues in the bathroom). I offered to meet him on February 1st (my next day off), but he never responded to me, and he has been radio-silent ever since.Had we known then half of what we know now, we would have never hired Mike, but we were in a serious bind. We were worried about a potential ceiling collapse in our 3-year-old's play area because we didn't know how long our tub had been leaking, and Mike was the only contractor who actually came to give us an estimate. Please save yourselves the headache and do not hire this company for anything more than putting up some sheetrock. Based on the shape of my bathroom three months after King Home Improvement's remodel, small handyman work is probably all they can do. If you choose to hire them despite this review, please make sure you ask for exact materials to be detailed in the contract, ask for a copy of their certificate of insurance, a written warranty policy, and have any changes in price ou...
Samuel j halpern attorney at law My name is Samuel J Halpern I have had the pleasure of representing the respondent king home improvement in a Mediation of the dispute between DESI mayol And king home improvement regarding bathroom tile work performed by my client. I submit the within in response to the false and defamatory review submitted on HomeAdvisor by the complainant my clients king home Improvements performed the tile work in the mayol residence in Woodland Park New Jersey Following completion of the work the maylols Complained about loose grout Improper mixing and other flaws my client returned several times to correct. But could.
I had just moved into a condo that required ceiling reinforcement in the entire unit. Mike was quick to respond to my request and sent Louis and his crew to do the work. They made it so convenient for me to work from home, working around me and keeping everything covered while I worked. They left my home as they found it and were quick to return to finish any spots I noticed that were missed. I canâ t speak highly enough of King Construction and will continue to use them for any jobs in the future. Highly recommended! More than 5 Stars!
Mike was great and his family and team were great too. They showed up on time. Were quick. Clean. Very professional.
professional, polite, on time, great value for the money. would use again.
This company was timely and very neat. I particularly appreciated the ability to negotiate a price that was within my budget. Mike-the boss-stopped in to make sure I was statisfied with the work and to entertain any questions I had. His employee was efficient and highly skilled. I will be using King Home Improvements again. Initially, I was satisfied but once the paint dried, I tried to contact the contractor for some issues, he has not returned to make any corrections. Therefore I have changed the star rating and review of King Home Improvements.
Professional, quality, polite, on time, good value. Would hire again in a minute and would recommend to all.
Professional. Excellent work. Dependable team!
They did a fantastic job and gave me a great price. They came on time and cleaned up after.
Very professional in their work and customer service. Lovely people.
Painted 2 small bathrooms, walls and ceilings, 150 sq ft each. Took 1 painter 10 hrs. Beforehand we walked thru each bathroom and discussed in detail what was to be done. Gave me an estimate of $800. After work was completed, charged me $900, due to "extra items needed to be done", even though he knew these before he started.
once paint was scrapped away there was further damage to a couple of areas that was not sceen before hand. charge was for spackled and repaired areas.
