Photo of Hutchinson - Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Heating Hutchinson - Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Heating Hutchinson installed my high efficiency furnace, a/c unit and hot water heater about 10 years ago. i have had an annual service contract with them since then. They come out every 6 months for routine checks so no other company has touched the equipment since it was installed. at the last service check a few weeks ago the technician told me that the seal around the flue pipe wasn't proper and it was leaking. he showed me a picture of a red sealant around the joint that was pvc pipe. he quoted me a price of $500 to repair it that i agreed to. it took him about 20 minutes to replace a 6 inch piece of pvc pipe. over the next week the amount that i paid wasn't sitting right with me for what had to be done especially since Hutchinson had done the install and therefore they didn't do it right the first time. I called them last week and explained all of the above and asked for a call back that never happened. from dealing with them thru the years i think their techs are incentivized to sell products or expensive repairs. they tried many times to install an ultraviolet air cleaner even though i already have a carrier air cleaner. They are Hutchinson in name only. I looked them up and they are owned by a private equity company that seems to specialize in buying family owned plumbing and hvac businesses. So buyer beware before you let them in your house. as for the hot water install the young plumber used a piece of scrap pipe for the hot water return. fortunately i went to the basement a few hours later and it was leaking because it wasn't soldered correctly. I turned off the water supply and the on call experienced plumber had to come out that evening and redo it and took back the scrap pipe to show his supervisor. other issues with Hutchinson include the time one of their technicians foot went through the attic floor and put a hole in the 2nd floor ceiling. Accidents happen and i was glad he wasn't injured. i contacted Hutchinson and they agreed to cover the cost of the repair. I got a quote and sent it to them and they approved it and i paid the contractor to do it. The problem was getting them to pay me back. They are strictly COD when they come out, but it took many many calls to get them to pay me. Either they were in a meeting or gone for the day and even thought i left messages it took at least 6 or more tries to get them to pay me when they realized i wasn't going away. then there was the issue with the pressure booster we have for our sprinkler system. it started to leak and was still under warranty. Hutchinson took it out and said they would take care of sending it back to the company for a replacement. I called a few times over the next several months and couldn't get an answer as to the status of the replacement. as a result i couldn't open my sprinkler system for the season and the plants and grass were not looking good. Finally i called the Slimer company myself to check on the status and Hutchinson had never sent it back to them. After that both Slimer and myself had to make multiple calls to Hutchinson to find out where it was. In the meantime the Slimer company was kind enough to send out a replacement.

The technician gave us an estimate of over $2000 to fix our heater. Would not tell us how much the part would cost but just stated the job would be that price. Never asked if the heater was under warranty, the heater is only 5 years old. Claimed the part would have to be ordered and it would take a week to come in. We had someone else come out the same day. The problem was diagnosed as a problem with the gas pressure which was adjusted and the heater has worked perfectly ever since. No need for a new part or an expensive repair.
