Chimneys and fireplaces never go out of style. From older townhomes in Washington,D.C. to newer ranch-style homes in Northern Virginia and Central Maryland, homeowners gather around their fireplaces nightly for meals, television, homework and entertainment. It’s a gathering place for their busy lifestyles. Additionally, for many other homeowners, it’s a source of heat. Your fireplace works hard during the cold fall and freezing winter to keep your home comfortable. It has to be working at maximum capacity, year-round, to provide the heat your home needs. We understand your situation perfectly! Genesis Chimney has certified and experienced technicians who can install, clean, repair and service your chimney and fireplace. We are certified by the CSIA (Chimney Safety institute of America), Certified Chimney Sweep, Masonry Repairs, Chimney Relining and Chimney Physics. (Certification number 10034). We are also an NFI (National Fireplace Institute) Certified Gas Specialist.

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because : After being in the industry for a few years, I became passionate about the chimney and hearth industry. So, I founded our company, Genesis Chimney, in 2022. After thirteen (13) years of experience, I have realized the key role we chimney/fireplace experts play in fire prevention, and the overall comfort our customers have in their home. Because of that, I continue to enroll in chimney courses and will soon become a Master Certified Technician by the NFI for wood, gas and pellet fireplaces. I am pleased and honored to serve the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. area’s chimney and fireplace needs. Kenny Morales, Owner Genesis Chimney .

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the state in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Businesses will not be admitted to the network if their owners or principals have the following felonies in their available criminal records*:

Arson

Assault/domestic violence/battery

Child abuse

Intimidation/terrorist threats

Kidnapping/abduction

Lewd and lascivious behavior

Manslaughter/murder/homicide/vehicular homicide

Rape/incest

Robbery/carjacking

Sex offenses

Other felonies not listed above that occurred in the past seven years

Contracting without a license in the past seven years

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened biennially.

How is COVID-19 impacting the HomeAdvisor background check program?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, several government agencies and courts across the country have temporarily closed their offices. While HomeAdvisor will continue its background check program to the extent possible, these closures could prevent some background checks from being performed. Please be advised that, during this period, if we could not perform a background check, HomeAdvisor will allow the business into the network and match the business to consumers. As affected government agencies and courts begin to re-open, we will resume our program in those jurisdictions. Licensing

We verify any applicable state-level licenses, and we require every business to attest that they carry the appropriate local licensing to practice their trade. Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
