Denis Ostroot was a great choice when we looked for someone to partner with and redo the kitchen in our 1924 house. We shopped the big outfits and didnâ t get a sense that they understood what we were looking for â just the right mix of original aesthetic and modern updates. Denis is a true woodworking craftsman and cabineteer. Every decision went beyond the â just get it done â and he brought many years of experience to the choices we made; from sourcing the beautiful birch, helping us sort out the choice of countertop, to getting the most out of every inch in our small kitchen space. Weâ re very pleased with the new kitchen and the attention to all details along the way. These projects never fit into a neat plan. Denis brought experience and a patient method to keep things on track.

I hired Denis in June 2022 to build custom cabinets in my basement be end of August. He said end of August may be tight but confirmed by mid-September. I gave him a 50% deposit of $3,325. He lied to us for months about the progress of the project and his delivery timing. Finally, after many calls and emails with him, learned in early November that he had done nothing on our project and did not have the $3,325 to refund me at that time when I demanded a refund. We gave him an ultimatum of delivering the cabinets by Dec. 1 or refund us our deposit. After continued lies through November, he finally sent me a refund check that I received on December 3. To my shock, it actually cleared when I deposited it. I should have known from the start as the deposit check I gave him cleared my account within 2 hours of him leaving my house in June - he took it straight to the bank from my house. .Not the sign of a true solvent business person. If he had even once apologized for the delay or not delivering them at all, I may not have posted this, but not a single "I'm sorry" from him. All I got from him for months was lies and fell 6 months behind on my project as a result. DO NOT HIRE DENIS.

I suppose one can get a fairly clear picture of these people by reading this "review". When I fired them as clients, I should have expected retribution, but it never occurred to me, and frankly would not have changed anything. This project was scheduled during all of the material shortages, hardware allocations, and uncertainty that followed on the heels of the pandemic. These clients became convinced that I was fabricating the difficulties in getting plywood and hardwood, the hardware "allocations" that were making production nearly impossible during this time, becoming more and more difficult as it went along. Everyone project was affected. As things began to return to "normal" at the end of the summer, I began clearing projects, in order. I went as far as working on this project with others to try to clear it up more quickly. On informing them of this, and presenting an anticipated completion date, they told me that was unacceptable. "we want our cabinets by Friday, and we are both lawyers..." Threats. Nope. I informed them that I would no longer be building anything for them and would return their down payment, which I did. Delayed six months? I would point out that I had originally targeted September as a completion date, and all of this occurred in November. I have always done, and continue to do our very best work for all of our clients. Thank you to our many fine clients who rolled through this with us. In all of my years building cabinets, furniture, and millwork, I have never experienced anything like what the last 2-1/2 years have been. I hope we never see each like again.
