Reviews
Write a ReviewI am about to put my NYC apartment on the market and it was sorely in need of a refresh. I had to replace my floor due to water damage and I needed help with what to choose. I needed paint colors for the walls and kitchen cabinets. Arlene not only helped me with all of this -- she did it remotely. I sent her photos and she set up a Pinterest board with her recommendations: rugs, curtains, tile -- all wonderful as well as economical. I sent her links to floors and cabinet hardware and she reviewed them and responded promptly. Everything that had been challenging for me Arlene turned into a fun project. And did I mention that Arlene is a joy to work with? She is always positive and willing to do that little bit extra to be sure everything is just right. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Thanks for your lovely review, Rebecca! Amazing what can be done remotely with emails and with Pinterest. It was a pleasure helping you freshen up and stage your terrific NYC apartment - and, yes, we had fun : ). I know that you're going to make a quick sale for top dollar! Let me know so that we can share a remote champagne toast!
I am so glad that I chose Arlene for my project. Arlene is a fantastic designer and made my house look much more extensive. I now own a small home and need help to make it look as large as possible. Arlene took all of those fears away. She is so professional and was so open to hearing my thoughts. She gave me many options for each space and even put a Pinterest board together. I would hire her again and highly recommend her. Thank you, Arlene, for going above and beyond what I thought you would. I now live in a jewel box that I cherish.
Colette, thank you so much for your wonderful review! You deserve to live in a jewel box because you are a jewel! Small homes can be sensational and we proved that, didn't we? Being such a creative person yourself, you had lots of great ideas. It was such a fun collaboration! Wishing you the best of everything in the beautiful home that you now cherish!
Very helpful!
Thanks, Ken. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife and providing comprehensive information on how to convert your present guest bathroom with Universal Handicapped design elements to get it ready for your mother to come and live with you.
Was nice to work with. However, I created a Pinterest board and sent her photos of the spaces beforehand and when we met it seemed like she did not look at it. She is very sweet and helpful. Just do not feel like we were a fit, which is fine. In our 2-hour consultation, we spent over 45 mins in one room and did not really speak much in two of my rooms which was a little disappointing. Overall I believe she is good for other people and just a very sweet woman. Just not who I am looking for sadly.
Ms. Day B, thank you, it was nice meeting you, as well. I did look over your pins before our meeting and before I arrived was thoroughly acquainted with your ultra-colorful, thinking way out of the box design sense, which we discussed. I told you I was excited to work with you since my training is in theater design and I am an artist as well as a designer and thought your project would be fun. We did spend a good deal of our 2-hour consultation in your kitchen since the renovation of it was the most costly and complicated part of your project. I did several layout sketches and gave you lots of practical tips and advice as well as creative suggestions. I did the same for your bathroom, offering advice based on my years of experience making suggestions that would be practical and beautiful. When we went into the 2 remaining rooms, I did ask you questions to try to understand what you wanted help with and how you envisioned using the rooms and did offer ideas, one of which you seemed to love ( the added piece I described for over the headboard), but it seemed like you had your own ideas and that you were not entirely open to hearing too many of mine for the two bedrooms. I did not know if you were overloaded at that point (which happens and I try to be sensitive to).I think I might have disappointed you with some of my more practical advice since it would have precluded a few of your more whimsical ideas that I felt would not be easy or comfortable for you to live with. I am very into both form and function and my clients appreciate my honesty. Yes, I agree that not all designers and clients are a good fit. I am sorry that we didn't connect creatively in the way that you were hoping for. That seldom happens in my work, since I love working in all different styles and go the extra mile to assess each client individual style to help them achieve a beautiful look that feels just right for them. I send you my best wishes and hope that you found someone to help make your dreams come true.
I could not have remodeled my kitchen with such wonderful results without Arlene. Her rich art background coupled with experience and knowledge about home remodeling made the experience enjoyable and satisfying. Throughout the process Arlene was conscious of budget, value and quality in all aspects. If I decide to make changes to another room of my house, my first call will be to Arlene!
Thanks so much, Julia! Was delightful working with you to create a charming, super functional cottage kitchen to go with your charming cottage. We managed to eke out every ounce of possible storage, did not we? : ) And, all of my favorite bang for the buck solutions kept us right at your budget. Yay! Enjoy your lovely kitchen!
Arlene is a rare find. Her attention to detail and vast experience make her an indispensable guide for any decorating decision. She has helped me completely remodel our home of four baths, a kitchen, and four added rooms. Throughout this process she has beautifully balanced the architectural integrity of our home with our desire to update its style. Arlene has a calming way and truly listens to her clients. Her talents as an artist are a built-in bonus as she can sketch out a new design, match a color exactly, and paint a mural on your wall! Arlene is such a delight to work with and I look forward to continuing to do so.
Thank you so much, Eden! I had the best time collaborating with you on your beautiful unique home! It's so exciting to work on a historic, Mid-century Robert Anderson design, keeping the spirit and art of his vision, while updating it to reflect your family's needs and specialness.
Arlene is a super- talented artist and designer but , more importantly, she is a person of integrity and grace. She designed and decorated my new offices and did a beautiful job! I could not be more pleased. It was a miracle that she was able to work within my budget, my time crunch, multiple needs, and limited space! She got the job done...and in time for the grand opening! I have had so many compliments! Her eye is impeccable. She is a joy to work with and I recommend her heartily and enthusiastically! She is my go-to designer!
Joan, what an honor to help you to create a safe and happy place for you to do your important work with teens. Doing it remotely, through Pinterest, emails and phone calls worked out greatI Thanking your very kind self for your very kind words!
Arlene Gold staged my house before it went to market. Transformation seems too tame a word to use. Her vision, her hard work , her artistry, turned the ordinary into a stunner. Her humor and patience made the process a joy
It was such fun working with you, Chris! Glad I convinced you to open your cupboards and store room because we found many treasures to re-purpose. And, of course, it was exciting when your home sold so quickly! Thanks so much for your kind words - and, the pizza!
I hired Arlene to help with a home renovation along with decorating ideas, paint colors, furniture placement. etc. Arlene has impeccable taste, great style, works well with a budget and was a joy to work with. She was very patient and especially great at bridging the difference in taste of my fiancée and I at the time. She was easily available and went above and beyond at all times. I think what makes Arlene special is her ability to work with the homeowners style so the home feels authentic to its owners. Arlene understands home design from the bones up and has great vision and the ability to achieve it. I would work with her again on the drop of a dime. As a matter of fact, I am!
Thank you, Carrie! So much fun to work with another artist. I feel like we're creating art/design together. And, then there are your amazing, curated finds from yard sales and your original art! Always inspiring and honored that you choose me.
Arlene has helped make my house a home. From window treatments, fabric choices on pillows and reupholstered furniture, to a completely remodeled master bath, Arlene has been amazing. She has beautiful taste that adjusts to and complements the personality of her clients. She also has a calm, easy going demeanor. She is a joy to work with.
Takes a calm, easy-going person to know one, Danielle. : ). Thanks so much for the opportunity to work with wonderful you on your beautiful Tudor home and for this sweet review!
