Reviews
Write a ReviewPlease read before hiring this person. Worst experience ever! If I could give him no stars I would. Mr. Gary Smith from A Top Remodel, was hired through Angiâ s List to replace a front door in July, 2023. While waiting for the special order door to come in it was agreed Mr. Smith would build a deck for me. He did some initial work which in the end turned out to be not in code. It had to be removed by the new deck company before they could build. More importantly, Mr. Smith disappeared from mid October to mid November with very sporadic texts/voicemails that included a list of reasons from truck issues, family issues, funeral, no money for gas to get out to the job site, etc. He was finally fired in early December after I found out that even after agreeing to give him a second chance to finish the job he told me the $5000 I gave him (separate from the labor payment) for deck materials was gone. He had spent it. To this day I have never received an invoice for the small amount of wood that was delivered for framing. I did not do my homework in researching Mr.Smith from A Top Remodel. I wish I had read more reviews so I too didnâ t get taken. I certainly do not want anyone else to get scammed. Mr. Smith is now back on Angiâ s List so please be careful. I am out a lot of money and will post pictures of the poor, very minimal work Mr. Smith did. Now that Mr. Smith has resurfaced with the team from Angiâ s List I will use the mediation service they offer to try to get back the money from the â business accountâ earmarked to purchase materials as represented to me by Mr. Smith when I gave him that check.
On 7/31/23 Gary took a deposit for my front door replacement project. While waiting for door to be ordered and come in, Gary was hired to build a small deck in my backyard. To date, the demolition of the old steps and railing is done as well as some footings installed. Contractor was also given another payment for labor as well as money for a business account to purchase materials and two credit cards to also use for trex decking material. The last check was given on October 17th. That check was cashed Contractor has not done any further work on deck. His tools and all the demolition materials remain in my backyard just as they left them the last day they worked. I have tried reaching out the contractor many times via text, email and phone to try to schedule a meeting. Every now and then he responds, but not consistently. At this point, I just want my deck completed, either by this contractor or another, my yard cleaned out, my credit cards returned and the work site cleaned up. It is not to say I would not recommend Gary. The work he has done so far is done well. I am hoping a meeting will happen the very nearfuture and a resolution fair to both parties can be agreed upon.
Our house was built in the 90's and had some special siding that was a close relative of cardboard. Some of it rotted out, so after calls with multiple contractors and siding companies (with piss poor or zero follow up) we were fortunate to find A Top Remodel. They had to replace the siding with some newer materials that weren't the same as the 90's siding and they had to paint. I was expecting it to look wonky, but the results are incredible! I can't even tell that we had siding repair done with different materials. The team was courteous, prompt, professional and I have nothing but good things to say about them or their work. I highly recommend them and we will be using them for future remodeling projects!
Very professional
They did an excellent job!
friendly, knowable, and affordable. takes pride in his work
Finished and arrived when promised. Quality of work top notch. Even though I gave a five it did seem to cost more than I expected. Overall a great experience.
Gary was very pleasant and efficient. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a few things done around the house.
No services provided after down payment.
They were the BEST! Gary always let me know when he arrived, left, & what part of the job he'd be working on each day. He was a perfectionist on every aspect of the job & very thorough in the removal of rotted wood, replacing flashing, & preparing for the next days tasks. His son came to help after the scaffold was set up; so I felt alot better about them working near the top of the chiminey; that they'd be safe at that height, also & the job could be completed successfully.
